TDS

Total Dissolved Solids, the amount of dissolved solids in the raw water measure in PPM.

CTA

Cellulose Tri-Actitatc, a material uscd to make membranes. It is resistant to chlorine but not bacteria.

CTAB

Cellulose Tri-Actitate Backed. As CTA but also resistant to bacteria.

TFC

Thin Film Composite, anothcr material uscd for making membrane that is resistant to bacteria but not chlorine, its rejections are on average 2% better than CTA and CTAB.

PEED FLOW

The raw water entering the system.

PRESSURE

The force of the raw water supply, measured in PSI.

PSI

A unit for expressLng pressure.

IONS

lons are the dissolvcd contaminants.

CONCENTRATE

The waste water separated from the puré.

PORE SIZE

The hole diameter in the membrane.

PERMEATE

The product/pure water produced.

SUPPORTLAYER - The strengthening backing to the membrane sheet.

BLOWBY

The technique, sometimes used for recycling concéntrate backto feed.

HALOGENS

A family of elements composed of chlorine, iodine, bromine and fluoride used for killing bacteria and virus.

PH

A number used to express the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. PH 7 is neutral, below 7 is acid, abovc is alkaline.

TURBIDITY

A measure of fine suspended rnattcr in water.
